  • First Generation - Simon Weeks (born about 1695) married Honour. Honour born about 1699.
  • Second Generation - Simon and Honour son John Weeks was born during  1720, married Mary Goyne. Mary was born during 1728.
  • Third Generation John and Mary son, William Weeks born  January 1763 married Elizabeth Hawk, born August 1759, on the 5 April 1748 St. Mellion, Cornwall, UK.
  • Fourth Generation - James Weeks born 1790, married Grace Ackerly born 1794, on the 5 February 1817 Mabe, Cornwall, UK. Sadly, Grace passed early in 1824 and Elizabeth only 4 years old, in Grahamstown, South Africa
  • James Weeks second wife, widow Maria Ann Smith nee Shepperson after Grace passed. They married on the 14 February 1825, Grahamstown, South Africa.

William Weeks
(1763-1818)

William Weeks was the youngest son of John Weeks and Mary Goyne, born on 18 January 1763 at St Cleer, Cornwall, UK.

William married Elizabeth Hawk on the 5 April 1784 Cornwall UK and the parents of :

  • John (1785- 1841)
  • William ( 1787-1860)
  • James (1790-1835)

According to our latest research foundings , William Weeks’ dad John Weeks married Mary (Goyn) Goynes and parents of:

  • Elizabeth Hawk was born about 1760 and youngest daughter of Phillip Hawk and Mary Moulton.

Phillip Hawk and Mary Moulton  married on the  8 September 1747 at St. Mellion , Cornwall, England and parents of:

  • John Hawk (1750 –  )
  • Mary Hawk (1753-1754)
  • Phillip Hawk ( 1755-   ) married Amy Launder.

James Weeks and Grace Ackerly (1818-1824)

 William and Elizabeth (Hawk) married in on the 5 April 1784, St mellion, Cornwall, UK and three sons:

  • John Weeks, born on 6 March 1785, St Dominique Cornwall and he married Mary Perkins on 17 March 1809. They  immigrated to Canada with his family in early 1800.
  • William was born on 18 May 1787 in Cornwall. (unfortunately, we haven’t explored his family yet and very little information is available.)
  • James Weeks born on 6 June 1790 in Truro, Cornwall. Christening on the 6 June 1791.

James Weeks a troop Sergent to Sir Lenard Holmes bart in the Island of Wright Yeoman at the time,  married Grace Ackerly on the 5 February 1817 in Mabe, Cornwall UK.

Grace (Ackerly) Weeks (1794-1824)

William Ackerly  born during 1757 married Miss Elizabeth Geach, miss Elizabeth was born on the 14 October 1761 and they married on the 4 January 1781, Budock Water, Cornwall, England. The children recorded:

James Weeks and Grace Ackerly
1820 Settlers

In the earlier 1800, the opportunities for families to immigrate to British-ruled colonies became more attractive and popular for the Cornwall community. 

According to the research the town the cornish people were immigrated to in Canada would also be named or were already named after Cornwall. 
John and James married their sweethearts in their hometown Cornwall, UK. John married Mary Parken in 1809, John brother James married Grace Ackerly in 1817.

According to the information at hand, William Weeks sr, passed in 1818.

Both John and James planned to immigrate to Canada between 1817 and 1823 at the time.
Something changed in the Weeks household during 1817 and James requested the gorvernor to Immigrate to South Africa. 

James wrote a letter to the governor requesting permission to immigrate to South Africa. 

 

During 1818 – 1820 James and Grace were approved for immigrating to South Africa and planned to join James best friend William Cock in South Africa. William Cock was  planning to sail with a separate party ” The Cock party” to South Africa.

During 1818 , James and Grace first daughter Elizabeth was born , 15 January 1818 in Penryn, Cornwall, UK. 

Sadly Elizabeth I died during the immigration trip on South Africa the 2 February 1820, according to the travel log.

Elizabeth II was born on the 12 August 1822 and according to the information, Grace was pregnant with Elizabeth II before the arrival at Algoa Bay in South Africa. 

Elizabeth married Rev Jeremiah Hartley on the 27 May 1837. 

James and Grace arrived in Grahamstown in 1820 as British Settlers to South Africa..

In 1824 Grace sadly passed in Grahamstown South Africa.

James Weeks and Mary Ann Shepperson ( Smith) (1825-1854)

Mary Ann Shepperson

William Shepperson married Mary Ann Elboroughon the 17 March 1795 , St Marleybone, London UK.

William and Mary Ann Shepperson were Blessed with Mary Ann born on the 5 May 1797 Oxford Street, London.

Sadly Mary Ann’s Mommie died a few days after birth and laid to rest on 21 May 1797. 

Mary Ann married William (Joseph)  Smith and according to available information, they have immigrated to Cape Town in 1820. Sadly William died shortly after arrival and no children were born from their marriage.

Mary Ann helped James with Elizabeth as a midwife as she was also a child that grew up without her mom.

James Weeks married Mary Ann Shepperson  on Valentines day 14 February 1825 in Grahams town, South Africa.

James and Mary were Blessed with five children and Elizabeth II from James previous marriage that Mary supported after the death of Elizabeth II mommy, Grace:

  • Samuel was born on 17 June 1828 and sadly had a short life and passed on 13 September 1831. He was the first of twins
  •  Joseph was born on 17 June 1828 and passed on 19 November 1890 in Grahams Town.
  • Sarah Ann was born 27 October 1830 and married James James (b 1824) on 18 September 1849.
  • William was born on 21 August 1832 and married Martha Magdalena Maria Elizabeth van der Westhuizen (b August 1840) on the 4 July 1857.
  • Jabez Juby was born on 27 November 1834 and married Anne Trollip (b 14 Jan 1835 ) on the 14 January 1857 at Willow Tree Farm, Grahamstown.

Elizabeth II Weeks (1822-1859) and Ref Hartley

Two years after James’ death, Elizabeth II married her sweetheart, Rev Jeremiah Hartley on the 27 May 1937.

They were Blessed with 5 kids:

  1. James Weeks (1838-1891)
  2. Thomas Henry (1839-1894)
  3. Sarah Elizabeth (1841-1931)
  4. William Ackerley (1843-)
  5. Mary Ann (1844-1930)

Elizabeth II honored her dad by calling her first son James Weeks and her third son William Ackerley – her mom’s maiden name. 

Sadly Jeremiah passed when his youngest daughter was 4 years old Elizabeth II also passed with her youngest at 15 years old.

 

Sarah Ann Weeks and James James

Sarah Ann (b 27 Oct 1830) and first daughter of James and Mary Ann Weeks, married her sweetheart James James (b 20 September 1873)  on 18 September 1849, Bathurst, Cape Province.

They were Blessed with seven children:

  1. Samuel Taylor ( 28 August 1851)
  2. Elizabeth Ann (24 February 1853)
  3. Edward Weeks ( b 18 December 1854)
  4. Agnes Lucrissa Shepperson (b 1 February 1857)
  5. Jesse (b 22 May 1858)
  6. Martha Lydia Trollip (b 20 February 1861)
  7. John Walton (b 18 April 1868)

Sadly Sarah Ann died a few days after the birth of John Walton.

Mary Ann (Shepperson) Weeks ( Sarah Ann’s mom) experience the same with her mom that passed shortly after birth.

William Weeks and MME van der Westhuizen

William Weeks (b 21 August 1832) married his sweetheart Martha Magdalena Maria Elizabeth van der Westhuizen ( b August 1840) on 4 July 1857, Potchefstroom, Transvaal.

They were Blessed with nine children:

  1. James William (b 21 July 1858) and married Margaretha Elizabeth Johanna Wolhurter (b 22 April 1862) on 24 July 1877.
  2. Albert ( b 1 October 1860 ) , sadly passed early on 10 November 1861.
  3. Mary Ann (b 23 February 1862)
  4. William (b 9 February 1864) and married his sweetheart Martha Johanna Wilhelmina Claasens (b 4 June 1870) on the 10 October 1887, Potchefstroom, Transvaal.
  5. George (b 27 November 1865) married his sweetheart Elsie Johanna Cecilia Roux (b about 1870) on 25 July 1889.
  6. Martha Magdalena (b 19 July 1867)
  7. Sarah Elizabeth (b 20 January 1872)
  8. Albert Petrus (b 24 January 1874) and married his sweetheart Johanna Alida Viljoen ( b 17 January 1936) on 15 September 1897 Wolmeransstad, Transvaal.

Jabez Juby Weeks and Anne Trollip

Jabez Juby (b 27 November 1834) married his sweetheart Anne Trollip ( b 14 January 1835) on 14 January 1857 at the Willow Tree Farm, Eastern Cape.

They were Blessed with nine children:

  1. William James Herbert ( b 9 January 1858)
  2. Walter Henry Leppan (b 1859) married Ann Maria Lovemore ( b 11 September 1855)  on 21 October 1855.
  3. Jabez Thomas Edwin ( b 1861) married his sweetheart Amy Gardner Gush (b Dec 1869) on 1 July 1903 Grahamstown, Eastern Cape.
  4. Alice Malvina Everly (b 21 September 1862).
  5. Anges Sarah Anne (b 18 May 1866) married her sweetheart Alexander Henry Turner (b 20 December 1863) on 28 January 1890 Somerset East, Cape Province.
  6. Amy Edith Shepperson (b 9 September 1868) on 25 December 1901, Somerset West, Stellenbosch.
  7. Minnie Florence (b 22 September 1870) married her sweetheart Arthur Driver ( b 1849) on 22 December 1897, Somerset East.
